Congressman Serrano Meets with Dominicanos USA
On Wednesday last week, Congressman José E. Serrano met with a group of representatives from Dominicanos USA to talk about the organization’s work to register voters:
“It was great meeting with Dominicanos USA to talk about their efforts to register citizens to vote and explain to new citizens the importance of voting and getting involved in the political process. Organizations like Dominicanos USA are important because not only they help citizens register to vote, but they also motivate citizens to get involved in our democracy," said Congressman Serrano.

Congressman Serrano Receives Friends of the National Parks Award
Last Wednesday, Congressman José E. Serrano was presented with a Friends of the National Parks Award for the 113th Congress:
“I am honored to receive the Friends of the National Parks Award for the 113th Congress. Our National Parks are treasures that we must continue to protect and maintain in the best conditions possible. At the local level I will continue to be part of the community's efforts to maintain and grow the local and state parks that are so important to the residents of New York City,” said Congressman Serrano.

Congressman Serrano Meets with Italian Students from Bucconi University
Last Thursday, Congressman José E. Serrano met with a group of Italian students from Bocconi University. The students were in Washington participating in a Georgetown University summer exchange program to learn about international project finance, as well as business and politics in the United States:
“It was a pleasure meeting such a wonderful group of students, who were so interested in learning more about the United States’ government and Congress. We had a great conversation about my job as Congressman, the United State’s foreign policy, and the role of the United States in the international community,” said Congressman Serrano.

Serrano Statement in Celebration of Eid al-Fitr
This past Friday, Congressman José E. Serrano released the following statement in celebration of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan:
“Today and tomorrow, Muslims in the Bronx and around the nation will celebrate the conclusion of Ramadan. I would like to extend my warm wishes to all who are observing this joyous occasion. Eid is a time of unity for the Muslim community to reflect on the principles of their faith.
“Over the past month, our Muslim family and friends have also given back to our community through charitable deeds. Their contributions during this time, and throughout the year, are a reflection of a thriving and generous community that enriches and strengthens the Bronx and our nation.
“During Ramadan, and always, let us support our friends and family of all backgrounds as they celebrate their faith and cultural heritage. I am proud to represent members of all different faith groups, including Muslims, in my district.
“On behalf of the Bronx, Eid Mubarak to all who are celebrating.”
Congressman Serrano Joins Mayor De Blasio to Tout the City’s Accomplishments in Expanding Affordable Housing
On Monday, Congressman José E. Serrano joined Mayor Bill de Blasio and other local elected leaders to highlight the City's accomplishments during the first year of the City's efforts to expand affordable housing.
“Affordable housing is a priority for the residents of the Bronx Mayor de Blasio has delivered, and exceeded everyone’s expectations, on his promise to protect and expand access to quality and affordable housing during the first year of his administration’s efforts. This is only the beginning and I look forward to seeing the results of the Mayor’s Housing New York Program during the next couple of years,” said Congressman Serrano.

Congressman Serrano Celebrates Iftar with Bangladeshi-American Community Council
Earlier this month, Congressman José E. Serrano joined the Bangladeshi-American Community Council to celebrate Iftar at its annual Iftar Observance-Celebration Dinner:
“I am honored to have been invited to share a dinner after a day of fasting during Ramadan with members of Bangladeshi community in the Bronx in observance of Iftar. The Bangladeshi community is an important part of our community and of the 15th Congressional District. Through their dedication, hard work and talent continue they continue to make great contributions to our community. I thank the Bangladeshi-American Community Council for inviting me to be a part of this wonderful event,” said Congressman Serrano.

Last week, Congressman José E. Serrano attended the Castle Hill Family Day Celebration hosted by Assemblyman Luis Sepulveda and Senator Jeff Kelin:
“It am always glad to join the Castle Hill Family Day, where I get to spend the day getting to know better Bronx families and hear about their needs and concerns. It was a great event with many people in attendance,” said Congressman Serrano.
