The Serrano Report

Washington, DC – Congressman José E. Serrano (D-NY) today released the following statement on the 18th Anniversary of September 11:

“9/11 impacted all Americans in one way or another. The terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were shocking and devastating. In particular, this date has a special meaning for New York City and New Yorkers. City residents from all walks of life can never forget the horror of these heinous attacks.  But we also will never forget the bravery of the first responders, the compassion shown to our city by this nation, and how we all united in the face of devastation.  In its aftermath, we emerged stronger and more united.

“As we commemorate the 18th anniversary of this horrific attack, let us remember and keep in our prayers the countless innocent victims, the first responders who lost their lives that day, and their families and loved ones. Let us also thank, as we do every year, the countless first responders and volunteers, from all over the country, who helped our city. To this day, many of them are still suffering terrible health conditions as a result of their selfless service and help. I am thankful that this year, Congress has finally passed into law the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act, which provides permanent assistance for victims’ families and surviving first responders and volunteers, so they can receive the care they need and lead the life they deserve in appreciation of their selfless service.”
