Serrano Supports Marriage for All

“Governor Paterson took a bold step today as he pushed for New York State to join others in the nation in legalizing same-sex marriage,” said Serrano. “I applaud him for moving forward on this important issue of equality, one in which New York is lagging behind. Our friends and family-members in the lesbian and gay community deserve the same rights in all areas of the law as other couples. Marriage has many benefits, and we should not deny them to couples who are in loving, committed relationships.

“Along with the Governor, I call on the New York State legislature to pass this bill without delay, and provide marriage equality for all New Yorkers. New York needs to lead on this issue, and the longer we delay, the further behind we fall. I look forward to attending a signing ceremony for this bill and applauding all those involved for guaranteeing that there are not second-class citizens in our state.”
