House Considers Energy and Water Appropriations Bill
Within the bill, Congressman Serrano helped to secure significant Corps of Engineers funding to continue work on some important Bronx projects, about which Congressman Serrano said, “this funding will enhance our water projects and directly benefit our Bronx residents – the users of our water resources.” Among the projects Serrano requested, $1 million is provided to help complete the shore protection project at Orchard Beach - a well used recreation site in the Bronx.
Throughout his long career in public office, Congressman Serrano has been involved in efforts to restore the Bronx River. The House passed bill also includes $325,000 for the Bronx River Ecosystem Restoration Study. In addition, Soundview Park is once again included under the Corps of Engineers Continuing Authorities Program. Congressman Serrano is hopeful that this will allow for the continued design and construction of the Soundview Park Ecosystem Restoration project. Funding for these projects will become finalized after passage of a House-Senate conference agreement and the signature of the President.
