House Passes Ban on Horse Slaughter

Yesterday, by a vote of 263 to 146, the House passed H.R. 503, a bill to prevent the slaughter of horses for human consumption. While horse meat consumption is not widespread in the United States, the bill targets the slaughter of horses for export to overseas markets. Congressman Serrano supported the bill and voted against two amendments that would have weakened the ban.
